BEST Regular Board Meeting
Minutes of May 8, 2008
Kathy Myers opened the meeting at 8:31 a.m.
Approval of the Minutes of the April 10, 2008 meeting: Motion by Tom Finnegan; seconded by Pete Molidor. Motion approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Ted Byers reviewed account balances: BEST $1,999.79; Character Counts $1,570.00 and Baxter Grant $1,307.33. Resolution #1: To change the Registered Agent (Who picks up mail, files State Incorporation forms, IRS 990 and any other government paperwork) from Peter J. Molidor to Ted M. Byers. Motion by Terre Ezyk; seconded by Pete Molidor. Motion approved.
Resolution #2: To change the Registered Office/Address (from the Library to Community Church of Round Lake) from 906 W. Hart Road, Round Lake, Il to 217 Goodnow Boulevard, Round Lake, Illinois. Motion by : Terre Ezyk; second by Tom Finnegan. Motion approved.
Introductions/Announcements:
Ted Byers announced that school physicals have a Round Lake area location at the Mid-Lakes Health Center (224 Claredon Drive, Round Lake Beach). Free school physicals will be done on THURSDAYS on a first come first serve basis from May 29th through October 30th (starting at 8:00am for the first 24 in line). Contact number is (847) 984-5100 and the following information is required: Each child’s immunization records, if employed proof of income (last pay stub) and a Photo ID.
Annie Lyons announced a fundraiser for the Community Church’s new addition building fund. Tom Finnegan announced that the next SALT meeting will have guest speaker/author of “It’s a Bird’s Life”. Kim Weidner reminded about the Boy Scouts Breakfast. Round Lake Beach’s Beachfest is June 20-22nd at the Cultural Center. The RL Middle School Dance Behavior Project had a good community business response with 35 locations displaying cards on appropriate behavior.
Presentation:
Candice Fujii, Youth Program Coordinator/Peer Justice Program, from Nicasa on Community Service Sites Part 1. BEST recognizes the need for approved sites in the Round Lake Area and is exploring ways to bring qualified sponsors together. Topics included area demographics and population and the need for community service sites to comply with various court ordered service hours and what type of sites and jobs were best fit for those sponsoring and those participating and typical paperwork associated with this program. Part 2 will be presented at the July 10th BEST meeting. This is a great opportunity to learn more about participating in this program.
Committee Updates:
By-Laws: Tom Finnegan. Nothing to report at this time.
Membership: Carole Shook is new chair. She is cleaning up the membership list and reminds all that dues for the new year are now due. A motion to keep the fiscal year for best membership as June through May was made by Pete Molidor and seconded by Annie Lyons. Motion approved.
Event Planning: Nanci Radford. The Chili Supper will be October 27, 2008h at the RLB Civic Center.
Public Awareness: Judi Armstrong. Nothing to report at this time.
Character Counts: Kathy Myers. The Annual Award Ceremony will be May 17th at 10:00am at the Round Lake Park Ranger Station and 25 recipients will be honored.
Ad Hoc Committees:
RLABEST Website: Training session is scheduled for June 3rd at Abundant Life Church on Hart Road at 9:30am. All who wish to be trained are welcomed to attend.
New Business:
Discuss and bring to resolution the need to revoke the dissolution determined by Treasurer.
Next Meeting: June 12, 2008 at the RLB Cultural Center at 8:30am.
